Abstract

Setting up an intensive care unit is a daunting challenge especially in developing countries in terms of design, equipment, staff requirements, and other resources. Despite these intimidating challenges, there is however a need toprovide critical care for patients in these settings. The availability of more specialized surgeries such as neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery and the need for advanced trauma care in most of our centers add to the urgent need for the provision of which is tailored to ourenvironment. The aim of this review is toprovide a practical overview on how toestablish efficient intensive care unit in low resource countries.
